Sports debate online is broken. There are tons of burner accounts and text arguments that go nowhere. You can't really heckle a bot. So we built Chirpzone to bring the actual energy of a student section to your phone. Think of it as Omegle for college sports rivals; we capture the energy of a sports bar with fans from two competing teams. The idea was to create a dedicated space to bring out the worst of internet sports rivalries.
Users verify their student status with a university email (.edu), pick their team, and find a match in one of the several arenas. Our algo instantly drops them into a video call with a fan from a rival school who is currently online and looking to “debate” (fight). Ohio State vs Michigan, Duke vs UNC, etc etc. You look them in the eye and defend your team or talk your trash. If they bore you or you flame them, you can skip to the next person instantly.
We aren't trying to make a safe space; we are building an arena for trash talk. But we did solve the random video chat problem - because everyone is verified via their school, there is real accountability. Plus, we have a "dashcam" feature that buffers the last minute of video as-needed, so if someone actually crosses a line, you report them and they are gone. The legal TLDR is that we found the sweet spot between the Wild West of Omegle and a surveillance state. It’s raunchy, fast, and it’s live for beta users as of today.
